English Brass Wall Pocket

English, brass cast and cut rare and unusual wall pocket with two antlered stags and a central heart motif, 18.0″ H, 11.25″ W, 5.0″ D, circa 1830

Although wall pockets come in metal and other materials (porcelain), most of these pockets were were designed to hold dried flowers in the form of a wall vase. They are very decorative and have come to be regarded as art forms of their own, whether filled with flowers or empty. Many people use them for letters and keys or arrange them in all their different shapes and patterns as art  grouped, symmetrically or randomly, high on a wall or low.
